The architect and rumored lover of Queen Hatshepsut (XVIII dynasty),
Senenmout, built one of the most elegant monuments of ancient Egypt
Deir el-Bahri (Arabic دير البحري dayr al-baḥrī, literally meaning, “The
Northern Monastery”) is a complex of temples and tombs located on the
west bank of the Nile, opposite the city of Luxor
Hatshepsut is the major woman ruler of ancient Egypt
She reigned as King and her statues show her is the dress of the Pharaoh
Her successor Tutmois III tried to remove her name and memory from the
lists of Kings
He was not successful although many of her statues have been damaged
The Temple is large and lovely and well worth exploring
